About us

Women in Cornwall is a community history hub dedicated to collecting and celebrating the achievements of women in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Women in Cornwall is collaboratively produced and maintained, and its growth as an archive of women’s lives is dependent on the input of volunteers and contributors.

Our archive contains the biographical profiles of hundreds of women whose lives have influenced or been influenced by — the region. Many of their listed works can be found in the Elizabeth Treffry Collection at the Morrab Library in Penzance.

Women in Cornwall emphasises the richness and mobility of women’s lives. We recognise both the intersection and divergence of women’s experiences of marginalisation with those of other oppressed groups, especially Black British and British Asian communities, the LGBTQ community, and disabled people. We especially welcome suggestions and further information to add to the site on these areas.
