Short biography

Erma James was an embroiderer of Scottish parentage but spent her childhood in Hayle, Cornwall and returned at regular intervals. She worked at a commercial studio in London and contributed articles and embroidery features to various educational periodicals and women's magazines in England and France.

Full biography

She designed the Inn Signs for Whitbread and in 1951 specialised in work on linen and embroidered pictures. She had a one-man show at Heals in 1948, as well as exhibiting elsewhere.

James authored two books on her memories of Cornwall.
