Short biography
Courtney was a poet and folklorist. Her best known book was Cornish Feasts and Folk-Lore (1890) and other works included Cornish Feasts and Feasten Times (1910) and Glossary of Words in Use in Cornwall (1880), which she co-authored with Dr. Thomas Quiller Couch. The eldest daughter of the J.S. Courtney, she was born at Penzance, where she continued to live. Her brothers were the Right Hon. Leonard Courtney, MP and William Prideaux Courtney, joint editor of the Bibliotheca Cornubiensis.
