Short biography

A novelist and poet, Hawkey was the youngest daughter of Joseph Hawkey of Liskeard. She was the author of Neota (1871), a privately printed work containing several Cornish legends and information relating to West country families.

For many years she lived at Taunton. She eventually lost her sight. Blackwood’s Magazine published her poem, ‘A View in the Island of Tanna’, in 1837 and poem ‘Shakespeare Tapestry’ in 1881. She was a frequent contributor to Animal World.
