Short biography

Hibbert was a prolific author, whose 1960 novel Mistress of Mellyn, written under her pseudonym Victoria Holt, is said to have single-handedly revived the Gothic romance genre.

Full biography

During World War II, the Hibberts lived in a cottage in Looe, Cornwall that looked out over Plaidy beach. Retuning to Looe every summer, Burford seemingly adopted the name of the beach for one of her pseudonyms, Jean Plaidy.

A series of her novels under the pseudonym Philippa Carr were based partly in Cornwall and partly in Australia.
