An author of fiction and children’s literature. Fenwick was born Eliza Jaco in Penlynt, Cornwall.

Full biography

In the 1780s, she married John Fenwick, a writer, who became an alcoholic. She authored a novel in 1795. She left him in 1807, working as a governness in Ireland before moving with her children to Barbados in 1814, where she and her daughter ran a secondary school. Throughout her life, Fenwick corresponded with Charlotte Turner Smith, Mary and Charles Lamb, William Godwin, Mary Wollstonecraft, and Mary Hays.
