A craftsperson and painter of still life, flowers, and landscapes. Born in Flagstaff Cottage, Lamorna, the eldest daughter of Samuel John and Houghton Birch, she was often painted by the artists of the Newlyn colony and their visitors, such as Laura and Harold Knight, Thomas Cooper Gotch, and Augustus John.
She married James Lennox Kerr, an author of boys’ adventure books. Kerr was a member of the Newlyn School of Art (Chairman, President) and St. Ives Society of Artists from 1945-1961. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, Newlyn Art Gallery, Lamorna Village Hall, and with the St Ives Society of Artists (1939-51). Retrospectives of her work were held at the Jamieson Library in Newmill, Penzance (1990) and in the Women Painters group exhibition at Penlee House (2002).
