Short biography
Born in Epsom, Surrey, Atkins served in the Women's Royal Navy Service in World War II and worked as Head of Personnel for Imperial Chemical Industries. With her sister, Babs Atkins, she moved to Looe in 1964 and purchased Looe Island in 1965. Evelyn authored two books about their time on the island. After Evelyn died in 1997, Babs Atkins remained on the island, entrusting it to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust on her death in 2004.
