Short biography
Friedlander was an activist, scholar, editor, curator and talented pianist.
Full biography
She studied at the Royal College of Music from 1958 to 1961. She married Albert Hoschander Friedlander, a Rabbi, in 1961. In the 1980s, she began her own scholarly work in the field of heritage, particularly in relation to the documentation of Jewish material culture in Germany and England.
As head of the Hidden Legacy Foundation from 1990 to 2000, she studied and catalogued Jewish life and culture in small communities and worked with Helen Fry on Plymouth and Exeter synagogues, the two oldest Ashkenazi synagogues in the English-speaking world, for an exhibition and book on Jewish people in Devon and Cornwall. Friedlander died in 2019.
