Short biography

Fay Simpson is an author. Born in Plymouth, Sampson grew up in Lympstone, Devon, after her father was posted to the Marine camp there during World War Two.

Full biography

She has degree in Mathematics from what was then University College of the South-West, now Exeter University, and then became a teacher. After marrying Jack Priestly, a fellow teacher, she moved to Northern Rhodesia and ran the college library there.

After 'celebrating the country’s independence as Zambia', they moved back to Devon, where Sampson began to write. She has authored over fifty books for children and adults, among them many Celtic-themed novels. Sampson has said that she writes under her maiden name, Sampson, 'because it’s a strongly West Country name' and 'also the name of a Celtic saint'.
