Short biography
A London-born novelist of ‘a feckless Cornish father’, Henry Braddon of Skisden, St Kew. Braddon's mother divorced from her father when she was 4. Privately educated, Braddon was an actress for 3 years, and later married publisher John Maxwell. Braddon is best known for her 1862 novel Lady Audley's Secret. She never lived in Cornwall. A complete set of her novels can be found in the Hypatia Collection at Exeter University.
