Short biography

The former Mary Granville, her home as the wife of Alexander Pendarves was at Penryn in the manor house of Roscrow (1718-48).

Full biography

The marriage was an unhappy one and in 1743, following Pendarves' death in 1725, she married Dr Patrick Delany, an Irish clergyman. She was a correspondent of Jonathan Swift and Fanny Burney. Her London salon was meeting place for artists and people of letters and she was herself a talented flower painter, silhouettist, and collagist. Delaney was painted by famous artists, including John Opie. She is noted in volume one of Boase and Courtney's Bibliotheca Cornubiensis.
