Short biography
An American educator, teacher, scholar, and author, Chase is regarded as one of the most important New England literary figures of the early twentieth century. A Professor of English Literature at Smith College, she holidayed in the UK. Her PhD from University of Chicago in 1920 was based on a study of Thomas Hardy’s novels. She authored a short novel set in Cornwall.
