Full biography

She was educated at King Edward VI High School for Girls, Birmingham and was a pupil of Anne Treneer, the Cornish author and schoolteacher. When her parents moved to St Ives, Cornwall, she travelled with them, supporting herself with a PR job which enabled her to work on her poetry.

Her first book of poems, Whipping Hearts Like Gigs was published in 1954. During her work at The Times, she did not write or publish poetry. After her retirement, however, she published Circles and Curves (2010).
