Short biography
Mary Wesley was a successful British novelist. Her best known novel, The Camomile Lawn (1984), drew on her experiences of her early life in Cornwall. It set on the Roseland Penisula and some of her other books were also set in the West Country.
Full biography
Wesley was educated at the London School of Economics. She worked in the War Office during the Second World War and worked in the antiques trade. She lived in London, France, Italy and Germany, as well as various places in the West Country.
The setting for The Chamomile Lawn was based on Boskenna, the seat of the Paynter family, where Wesley had spent much time.
