Short biography

From a Scilly Isles St. Agnes family, Mortimer was educated at Dulwich and LSE, where she was also a research assistant. She worked during World War Two in the Board of Trade and Women's Land Army.

Full biography

From 1941-7, Mortimer became the part-time research secretary to the Lord Oliver and then to Paul Einzig of the Financial Times. She carried out research on land tenure for the Colonial Office.

She spent ten further years as a lecturer for the WEA in London, Nottingham, Sussex, and Somerset and wrote for newspapers and magazines, including the Western Morning News, Old Cornwall, the West Country Magazine, and The Scillonian.
