Short biography

Nellie Cornwall was the psuedonym of Ellen Sloggett, an author and folklorist. Born in Padstow, in early 1867 Cornwall suffered a devastating spinal illness. In 1871, she was noted in the census as a ‘cripple - spinal disease’ and she was paralysed for the rest of her life. Latterly she devoted much of her attention to Cornish folklore and legend, under the pen-name Enys Tregarthen.
