Short biography

Mayes wrote for the Daily Mirror regularly from 1952 in 'The Old Codger's Live Letters'. At this time, she had moved to Cornwall and sparked interest from the paper's readers when she sent in a letter describing her commute across the Cornish countryside, which ended with a walk across the beach at Perranporth.

Full biography

Following this letter, she was asked to continue writing for 'Live Letters' and in 1953 The Daily Mirror invited her to London to write about the Queen's Coronation. Mayers wrote for The Daily Mirror on and off for forty nine years.
