An author, historian, and book reviewer, Grylls came from old Cornish family from Lanreath, near Looe.
Full biography
She was educated in Oxford at the Queen's College, for which she wrote a centenary history in 1948, and at Lady Margaret Hall. She was the wife of ex-MP for Wolverhampton, Sir Geoffrey Mander.
She was a noted biographer, with special interest in the Romantic and Pre-Raphaelite movements. She contributed many reviews to Denys Val Baker's Cornish Review between 1949-1951. She was made a Cornish bard in 1948, taking the name Kernewes Dyvres, meaning 'Exiled Cornishwoman'.
