Veronica Chesher (1920-2020) was a local historian and founder of several local history groups.
 

Full biography

Born Veronica Varley, she moved to Cornwall in 1926. Before going up to read History at St Hugh's College, Oxford, she was the Secretary of Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society. She married F.J. Chesher on 29th December 1955.

Cheser founded the original Fowey History Group, which was one of the first local history groups in Cornwall, and was a founder member of the Penwith Local History Group. She also founded the Cornwall Association of Local Historians in 1981, in order to was to provide places for meeting and exchange for local history societies and individuals interested in local history.

Chesher worked as an extra-mural tutor with F.L. Harris of the University of Exeter at a time where there was no university campus in Cornwall. With June Palmer, Chesher co-edited the book Three Hundred Years on Penwith Farms (1994). She was made a Cornish bard in 1977, taking the name Gweresores Studhyoryon Ystory, 'Helper of History Students'.
