Winifred M White ( - )
Also known as
Carey Hensy
Short biography
Winifred White was made a Cornish bard in 1960, taking the bardic name Carey Hensy, 'Lover of Footpaths' for her work preserving foothpaths in Cornwall. She founded the West Cornwall Footpaths Preservation Society in 1953, following the creation of the National Parks Act which entailed the recording of all known footpaths. Whilst the Society's walks were initially organised in order to investigate complaints of obstructed footpaths and rights of way, WCFPS walks became more recreational and continue today.
